Position Overview

Hanover College seeks an innovative and collaborative leader to serve as Associate Provost for Undergraduate Studies to begin July 1, 2025. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative appointment. The Associate Provost will oversee undergraduate academic operations, coordinate program reviews, lead assessment and accreditation efforts, and contribute to faculty development in partnership with academic committees and leaders. The position reports directly to the Provost and is a member of the Provost's Leadership Team, which includes the Associate Provost for Student Outcomes, Associate Provost for Graduate Studies, Assistant Provost & Registrar, the Library Director, and the Academic Affairs Administrative Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undergraduate Program Administration:
    • Supervise some staff and lead work of undergraduate department chairs.
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to achieve institutional strategic goals, including enhancing initiatives to promote student success and supporting underserved student populations.
    • Manage budgets related to undergraduate programs, including laboratory fees, gift accounts, and student employment funding.
    • Oversee summer session planning, budgeting, and evaluation
    • Oversee undergraduate academic program reviews and administrative area reviews and assist units with strategic planning
    • Work with department chairs, program coordinators, and the Registrar to monitor enrollments, staffing, and course scheduling.
    • Convene undergraduate department chair meetings and foster regular communication.
    • Collaborate on the development and implementation of new academic programs.
    • Resolve undergraduate grade appeals and course-related issues.
    • Create and maintain content for the Academic Affairs website.
  • Assessment and Accreditation:
    • Lead the assessment of academic programs, including the evaluation of student learning outcomes.
    • Manage accreditation processes for undergraduate programs; may serve as accreditation liaison officer (ALO) to the Higher Learning Commission.
    • Track and support all undergraduate program accreditation processes.
    • Oversee and support continuing assessment of learning in undergraduate programs and the core curriculum.
    • Oversee the review of undergraduate course evaluations and annual faculty reports.
  • Faculty Support and Development:
    • Oversee undergraduate faculty onboarding and orientation.
    • Partner with committees and individuals to provide faculty development opportunities.
    • Foster and support innovation in instructional technology and digital literacy.
    • Assist in the recruitment and support of undergraduate faculty through search processes and mentoring.
  • Teaching:
    • Teach 1-2 classes per academic year as negotiated with the Provost.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned terminal degree appropriate to one's discipline and minimum rank of Associate Professor.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of inclusive excellence.
  • Experience in assessment and academic program evaluation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Supervisory experience in an academic or related setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a liberal arts environment.
  • Proven record of leadership in academic program assessment and learning outcomes.
  • Administrative experience (e.g., department chair, program coordinator, or director).
  • Familiarity with higher education accreditation processes.
