Transmission Maintenance Center (TMC) Line Engineer – Savannah & Brunswick
Locations: Savannah TMC and Brunswick TMC (2) positions
Reports to: Coastal TMA Manager
JOB SUMMARY
These Transmission Line Engineer positions report to the Coastal Transmission Maintenance Area Manager and are responsible for leading the Savannah TMC and Brunswick TMC area line maintenance programs, preparing and closing capital and maintenance work orders, coordinating material needs, overseeing maintenance and inspection programs and contractors, entering and reviewing data, coordinating work activities with other departments, patrolling transmission lines, coordinating repairs on transmission lines and associated equipment, attending Planning & Pre-construction meetings, and providing technical support to the TMC Contract Line crew. The transmission maintenance engineer must have a positive attitude, work well in a team environment, and possess excellent customer service skills for interaction with customers and property owners.
These positions will be filled at Exempt Level 3-6, dependent upon the qualifications, skills, and experience of the successful candidates. The successful candidate must live within commutable distance of the Coastal Transmission Maintenance Area and be willing to quickly relocate. These positions are in Savannah, GA and Brunswick, GA. Relocation assistance available, if qualified.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and schedule the Coastal TMA Line Maintenance work plan.
- Assist the Line crews in ensuring that all transmission line work complies with the current Georgia Power Company (GPC) specifications and standards.
- Have no Operational Incidents and achieve SAIDI (Sustained Average Interruption Duration Index) and SAIFI (Sustained Average Interruption Frequency Index) goals for the year.
- Track and operate within the O&M budget monthly.
- Track and operate within the Capital budget monthly.
- Support TMC Line crews with complex or unique clearance requests.
- Support hot stick work, as necessary.
- Assist the TMC Line crews with the access requirements of a job and in acquiring specialized equipment as needed.
- Assist with switching as needed.
- Help ensure complete and accurate transmission line data and documentation, including STOMP data.
- Support the review of all Transmission Line aerial inspection reports and initiate appropriate action.
- Monitor and maintain instantaneous operation information and assist with information gathering on all other operation/lockout events detailed in "post incident" reports.
- Investigate all outages/operations per the Patrol Procedure for Bulk Power Lines Operations to discover and report root cause. Utilize foot patrols or aerial patrols, as necessary. Evaluate system outages to ensure proper operation of equipment and that methods of restoration were efficient.
- Ensure the timely completion of all documentation including Morning Report follow-up, assignment of ULs, ProCard, Invoice auditing, and Work Order closeout.
- Interface directly with all external requestors.
- Participate in the Coastal TMC Line Maintenance on-call rotation to provide trouble response and outage restoration; the on-call rotation participants are the Line engineer, Line Foreman, and Line specialists for the area.
- Assist Line specialist in completion of required maintenance of transmission line switches to include routine inspections and repairs, as needed.
- Support capital transmission line projects for the Coastal TMA by participating in planning and pre-construction meetings.
- Assist Line Specialist in coordinating and scheduling transmission line switch installations, as needed.
- Assist Line Engineering in analyzing existing line and ROW (right of way) conditions.
- Work with Transmission Support to solve technical line issues and best practices within Line Maintenance.
- Monitor the progress of construction.
- Coordinate and assist in performing final line inspections.
- Support Contract Transmission Line Crews working for the TMC.
- Order materials, arrange outages, coordinate permits, clearances, switching, and traffic control.
- Ensure that all work performed by contract crews working for the TMC is completed per GPC standards, on schedule, and within budget constraints.
- Verify and track contract crew invoices.
- Provide Comptroller with UL estimates at the end of each month.
- Work with other TMC Transmission Line Engineers/Specialists to become proficient in the installation and maintenance of transmission line switches and motor operators.
- Focus on Safety Excellence. Assist in providing a safe working environment for all Transmission line activities in the Coastal TMA. Apply Human Performance tools, concepts, and processes to foster continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Work with storm teams following major weather events. This may require out-of-state travel.
- Lead the technical portion of storm response regarding Transmission Line outages in the Coastal TMA.
- Develop relationships with other workgroups within Power Delivery and External Affairs.
