The Purpose of This Role
As part of the Plynk Mobile App within the Fidelity Center for Applied Technology (FCAT), the candidate will be part of a team that builds creative digital solutions and capabilities for our Plynk mobile app to ensure investing is inclusive for all audiences by removing barriers that prevent participation. We are redefining the financial services industry by changing the way we work and being customer obsessed!
This platform will be completely on the cloud and will provide various new additional & improved features to the end customer.
We are looking for a highly motivated Database Engineer to be working closely with the Center of Excellence DBA team. In this role you will bring your technology expertise, design, and administration skills to create unique state-of-the-art distributed database systems to build our brokerage platform. You have a passion for technology tempered by a level-headed approach to problem solving and broad experience in diverse technologies. You will work on all phases of projects, from design to deployment into production along with the team of Architects, Analysts, Developers and SREs.
The Value You Deliver
Design, configure and monitor very large-scale database systems including distributed SQL, NoSQL and in memory databases. Working in tandem with Architects, database administrators, data engineers across the organization.
The Expertise You Have
- Expertise in Distributed SQL and NoSQL Databases.
- Hands-on experience in Oracle and CockroachDB.
- Experience in MongoDB is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in installing, configuring, and upgrading CockroachDB database, as well as general administration.
- Sound knowledge in architecture of cockroachdb, geo-partitioning, data replication, sharding
- Understanding of consensus algorithms (Raft / Paxos)
- Schema design, performance tuning, query optimization, backup solutions (Physical and Logical)
- Proficient in Performance Tuning.
- Debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot methodically, identifying, and applying fixes for known errors, and when necessary, capacity to think outside of the box to resolve complex issues.
- Scripting/automation tooling (bash/python and Ansible) experience is a must.
- Experienced in CI/CD, DevOps using tools like Udeploy, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Git, liquibase.
- Experience in Datadog and integration with ServiceNow.
- Cross-functional training in NoSQL, Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps methodologies are encouraged.
- Knowledge in working of REST APIs, ability to read documentation and make calls to read or write data using API is a plus.
- Experience in containerization technologies such as ECS and Docker
- Strong collaboration skills to work with multiple teams across the organization
The Skills That Are Good to Have for This Role
- Must have worked on trending cloud solutions (AWS/Azure /GCP) - AWS preferred.
- Experience in AWS EC2, CFT, Route53, RDS.
- Experience or subject knowledge in Redis and Elasticsearch.
- Clear understanding of query planning
- Good interpersonal and communication skills in both oral and written English
- Adept at version control tools GIT Stash, build tools like Maven.
- Experience in working with different kinds of hosted infrastructure.
- Ability to learn new concepts and technologies in strict timelines.
- Must be adaptable in a changing environment and be effective in many different business settings.
- Experience with cloud data warehousing and data lake solutions is a plus.

- 10+ years of DBA experience
- AWS Solutions Architect certification
