Job Summary

Responsible for planning and designing new software and web applications. Analyzes, tests and assists with the integration of new applications. Oversees the documentation of all development activity. Trains non-technical personnel. Assists with tracking performance metrics. Provides guidance and support to other Engineers. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. May lead teams or projects and shares expertise. The Technology, Product, Experience (TPX) organization works at the intersection of media and technology and our innovative teams are continually developing and delivering products and next-generation technologies that transform the customer experience. The Comcast Network and CONNECTivity (CONNECT) organization is a highly agile, fast-paced, dedicated group at the forefront of change focused on innovating, building, and operating the best in class, most reliable access network for our customers. Optek's distributed team is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of critical hardware and software applications used by 20,000+ field technicians to diagnose and repair customer-impacting issues within the Access Network. Optek also develops and maintains multiple RF monitoring software platforms. These tools provide near real-time analysis of Comcast's 50 million cable modems and associated network components, detect problems, and notify the correct fix agents. This software developer will be joining our team focusing on the platform side of our software development team.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

Scope and Complexity:

Exercises independent judgement to evaluate and resolve problems of diverse scopes and escalates complex issues where analysis of the situation requires in-depth evaluation and judgement.

Thought Leadership:

  • Acts as a key contributor, technical resource, and cross-functional liaison on new software and web application planning and design.
  • Assists in representing testing and automation frameworks and methodologies to senior leadership and external engineering teams.
  • Leverages technical knowledge and stays up to date on industry innovation and technical developments to evaluate new frameworks for automation solutions.
  • Participates in strategic conversations to define software strategy and security practices.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Peer reviews and develops technical specifications for assigned application components or major features/versions including functional and design specifications.
  • Communicates with others to repair complex, broken automation scripts and resolve coding bugs in the codebase.
  • Understands current coding tools, programming languages, and the product development lifecycle.

People Development:

Provides training to junior engineers to develop technical skills and capabilities for current and future technology across the team.

Follow Best Practices.

Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification and within budget. Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects. Displays expertise in knowledge of SDLC methodologies, concepts and skills and their application in the area of specified engineering specialty.

Collaboration.

Works with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.

Mentoring.

Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior level Software Development Engineers. Sets example with regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
